There are three criteria that combine to make a stallion great. First his genotype which supplies the superior gene combinations proven over generations of competition: second, his phenotype , which displays much of the results of those combinations and upon which we judge him in the show ring and which allows him to be the ultimate competitor in his own right and third his prepotency as exemplified by his offspring and their accomplishments which bear evidence of his ability to pass on these "winning combinations" to future generations of competitors.
